How to Place Portals

When the Place Portal comand is active, the user has 2 options for placing the portals, as a template extrusion between 2 referencelines or as an external cell attached to one of the referencelines.

When Template option is used, the following options are available for input:
  • Start/end template name - the portal template that will be used for extrusion between the referencelines.
  • Vertical offset - the vertical offset between the WP of the portal template and the profile elevation.
  • Start template inclination - if 0.0° is selected the start template will be create parallel with the global Z axis; if the angle value is different than 0.0° the start template will be rotate with the given angle in relation to the global Z axis;
  • Material name - the material that will be assigned to the created solid.
  • Feature defintion - the feature defintion that will be assigned to the created solid.
  • Name prefix- the name prefix that will be assigned to the created solid.
When the same template is used in start/end fields, the extrusion of the solid will be constant. When different templates are used, the extrusion will be made from the start template to the end template. The command will ask for selection of the first referenceline on which the start template will be placed and the second referenceline on which the end template will be placed. The referenceline selection can be made from left to right or right to left. When the extrusion of the portal is made by using different start/end templates, the following rules must be considered:
  • The shapes of the portals need to have the same direction
  • The shapes of the portals need to have the same number of lines/arcs and points
  • When creating the portal geometry, the same direction of the lines needs to be used for both templates i.e. the created geometry from one templates needs to have correspondence in the second template.
When Cell option is used, the following options are available for input:
  • cell name - the cell name that will be placed on the selected referenceline
  • active angle - the rotation angle about the global vertical Z axis
  • horizontal offset - the horrizontal offset from the selected referenceline
  • vertical offset - the vertical offset between the WP of the portal template and the profile elevation
  • Material name - the material that will be assigned to the placedsolid
  • Feature defintion - the feature defintion that will be assigned to the placed solid
  • Name prefix- the name prefix that will be assigned to the placed solid
